What are the major professional organizations for appraisers in the United States?
There are three major professional organizations for appraisers working in the United States: the International Society of Appraisers, the Appraisers Association of America, and the American Society of Appraisers. Each organization has their own entrance requirements, by-laws, and codes of ethics. While it is not necessary to belong to a professional organization be a practicing personal property appraiser, appraisers who are a member of a professional organization have demonstrated their commitment to the considerable time, educational coursework, and financial expense required to meet membership requirements. I am a Certified Member of the International Society of Appraisers with the Private Client Services designation for working with high-net work clients and am also an Accredited Member of the Appraisers Association of American. Additional information about each of the three organizations can be found on their official websites linked below.
